JOHANNESBURG BASKETBALL ACADEMY

Welcome to Johannesburg Basketball Academy, where we are dedicated to helping all of our players improve their basketball skills. We focus on all aspects of the game, including shooting, passing, rebounding, footwork, court position and much more. We believe that basketball is a great unifier and welcome players of all genders, races, religions and backgrounds to join our Club.

Our goal is not only to teach our players how to play basketball but also to help them develop valuable life skills through the sport. We are committed to sparking excitement in our communities and schools through the game of basketball.

Our academy caters to boys and girls between the ages of 8 and 18. Join us today and take your basketball skills to the next level!

Mlungisi “Florsh” Ngwenya

Mlungisi “Florsh” Ngwenya is a highly experienced basketball coach with a coaching diploma from the University of Semmelweis in Hungary and a FIBA-recognized Level 2 coaching qualification. He currently serves as the Head Coach of the Cape Town Tigers, leading them to the BAL quarter-finals in 2022 and 2023 and the semi-finals in 2024.

Ngwenya is also the current Men’s Senior South African National Team Coach and has coached in prestigious tournaments, including the Commonwealth Games in Melbourne and five African Championships in Egypt, Algeria, Angola, Libya, and Madagascar. Additionally, he coached the U20 Ladies South African National Team at the Zone 6 Games in Maputo.

Throughout his career, he has achieved significant success, winning three Basketball National League (BNL) championships with the Egoli Magic Basketball Club and a Professional Basketball League (PBL) championship with the Soweto Panthers. Ngwenya also earned a silver medal with the USSA National Team at the CUCSA Games in Botswana and co-founded the Johannesburg Basketball Academy in 2016.

Lesego Molebatsi

Lesego Molebatsi has had an extensive and accomplished basketball career, beginning as a Provincial and South African National Team player at the U/16 and U/18 levels from 1996 to 2000. In 1999, he was named MVP at the Tim Hardaway Basketball Camp in Chicago and played in the Egoli Magic Invitation team in Angola.

He earned a basketball scholarship to Wits University in 2001, where he also represented the South African Student National Team in Botswana and competed in the World Student Games in Beijing. Molebatsi continued his basketball journey in the United States, receiving scholarships to play at the Community College of Southern Nevada, Fresno City College, and Fresno Pacific University between 2002 and 2006.

As a Senior South African National Team player from 2001 to 2018, he competed in three FIBA Africa Championships, the All Africa Games, and the BRICS Games. His professional career includes winning a Professional Basketball League (PBL) Championship with the Soweto Panthers and five Basketball National League (BNL) titles, three as a player and captain and two as a General Manager for Egoli Magic Basketball Club. Since 2017, Molebatsi has served as the General Manager of the Egoli Magic Basketball Club and in 2016 Co-Founder of Johannesburg Basketball Academy. Molebatsi graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Management and Administration from Fresno Pacific University (USA) in 2007.

SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY PROGRAMS

At Johannesburg Basketball Academy, we not only strive to develop talented basketball players but also understand the importance of giving back to the community. Our commitment to social responsibility drives us to implement impactful programs that extend beyond the court. Through our diverse range of initiatives, we aim to make a positive difference in the lives of individuals and contribute to the betterment of society. From youth outreach and educational scholarships to and community service, our social responsibility program embodies our dedication to using basketball as a catalyst for positive change. Join us as we combine the love for the game with a genuine desire to create a lasting impact in the Johannesburg community and beyond.

 

  1. Youth Outreach Program: The Academy would like to establish partnerships with local schools or community centers to provide basketball training and mentorship programs for underprivileged youth.
  2. Scholarship Program: The Academy has established relationships locally and internationally to be able offer scholarships or financial aid to talented but economically disadvantaged athletes, enabling them to access quality basketball training and education.
  3. Community Basketball Clinics: Organizing free basketball clinics and workshops for the local community, where participants of all ages and skill levels can learn and improve their basketball skills.
  4. Environmental Initiatives: The Academy can promote environmental consciousness by organizing clean-up campaigns in local parks or adopting sustainable practices within their facility, such as recycling or energy conservation.
  5. Equipment Donation: Donating old or unused equipment to similar programs or schools that may lack the necessary resources to acquire proper basketball gear.
  6. Health and Fitness Education: Promoting healthy lifestyles and educating athletes and their families about proper nutrition, injury prevention and overall well-being.
  7. Community Service Projects: Engaging in various community service activities such as volunteering at local shelters, organizing charity events, or participating in fundraising campaigns for charitable causes.

Annual fee: R3,000
– Player will receive game and practice kit
– Includes registration fees for all leagues & tournaments

Monthly

– R1,200 ;Practice twice a week
– R800 ;Practice once a week

Private session

– R400 per session
– Available for individuals & groups

School Holidays

– R600 per week
– Practice three times a week
